SAVWA Climate Justice Campaign
Description: Volunteers and community members have an opportunity to creating a platform to address Climate Justice in Pretoria and map out a consecutive plan to address climate change especially with focus on how youth can contribute to the discussion.
We will create a week long activities from preparing monthly volunteer newsletters and activity reports, resource mobilization and fundraising activities Community outreach in the neighboring communities.
Type of Work: We require volunteers to be participative as this is a group effort and not single person activity. We want to make society aware on the impact that humans are having on our planet due to issues related to climate justice and climate change and how we as volunteers have the duty as change agents to this world and advocate to the world that society and everyone in this world can take the responsibility as citizens of this world to change our ways.
Study Theme: Climate Justice Action
Accommodation: Accommodation will be in a house and venue of activities in Soshanguve. Participants will be required to bring their own sleeping bags. The accommodation has a simple bathroom with shower and water available. The accommodation and work place have flushing toilets and do have electricity but should expect normal power cuts lasting to 4 hours on various time slots in the week. (Not every day)
Language: Any other languages accepted. The community has multi-cultural people and English is mostly spoken with local languages such as Sotho, Zulu, and Tshwana to name a few.
Requirements: Qualification of participants: Open minded, ready to interact with other people of different cultural background - Positive attitude - Willing to share his/her experiences - Flexible to live/stay in simple living conditions - Flexible to eat local food - Ready to do academic work on the project and No experience needed at all.
Notes: The Weekend is meant to be for free tours that the group can organize by themselves. All our work camps are reserved for cultural nights when each volunteer can present her/his country and culture.
