Take action together with young women
Description: Our workcamp focuses on the community life in a small village called Rumyancevo. Because of the lack of equal opportunities in the small villages in Bulgaria, the group of young women between 15 and 30 years old is very vulnerable. After finishing school most of them do not continue their personal development or their education, because they do not have the mindset for the lifetime learning process. They usually become young mothers and transfer their attitude to their children, which leads to the vicious circle of poverty in the small regions. A small group of women in the village desire to form a Club, which can gather them together in order to do activities for the local children who go to school. They desire to start a change in their community and our workcamp will support them.
Type of Work: Volunteers and local women will participate in creative workshops, at which we will recycle and transform old clothes in new clothes and accessories for the local children with fewer opportunities. In the afternoons we will meet for games and activities that aim to create bonds between women involved in the Club, help them open up and find their talents and interests. The workcamp will finish with an open event for the whole community, which will present the result of the creative work, together with photos/videos that we will make during the workcamp. Volunteers will be responsible for moderation of both creative and afternoon workshops, but they will also take active part in them. Everyday there will be a team from 2-3 people to watch the children of the women, who participate actively
Study Theme: Apart from the afternoon workshops, there will be discussions on the topics of women empowerment, gender equality and healthy body image organized for the volunteers. During the free time volunteers will have the opportunity to go for a camping trip, see the nearby caves and river, originating from a karst source, try rock climbing and sleep outdoors in tents or go for a walk around the river valley.
Accommodation: The accommodation will be in a school dormitory. Please bring your own sleeping bag. One shower and 2 bathrooms are shared. Simple but healthy traditional local food will be prepared by the hosts. Possibility of making own food is limited.
Language: English, Bulgarian

These requirements are not mandatory for the volunteers to apply, though. If you are open, creative and communicative, or you work on being that person, you are welcome.
