SAVWA Construction Work Camp/ Building Project

Projektbeschrieb: Building project for community development in Soshanguve. Includes plastering and brick making at project site and other local activities.
Volunteers and community members will give support and guide community work and building such as mixing cement and plastering. This is an exciting project as we hope to bring some change especially for the elderly and the children.
Volunteers have opportunity to work with different people in the community and interact with children after school.
Art der Arbeiten: We will be helping in a building project for a community center which will cater for the community. The building project includes plastering and brick making at project site and other local activities. We hope to finish at least four rooms with assistance from community members and well-wishers to the project.
Studien-Thema: This is a sustainable lifestyle project involving manual work and community engagement too. The community of Soshanguve is peri-urban and is interesting with personal interaction with community members both young and old and learning history of South Africa in a new Era too.
Unterkunft: Accommodation will be in a house in Soshanguve. Participants will be required to bring their own sleeping bags. The accommodation has a simple bathroom with shower and there is water. The accommodation place has flushing toilets and do have electricity but should expect normal power cuts lasting to 4 hours on various time slots in the week. (Not every day). This is a shared common room and expect to enjoy the community life and engagement too.
Anmerkungen: Qualification of participants: Open minded, ready to interact with other people of different cultural background - Positive attitude - Willing to share his/her experiences - Flexible to live/stay in simple living conditions - Flexible to eat local food - No experience needed at all.
Bring some working clothes and working gloves too. Sleeping bag, sun cream, mosquito spray/lotion, sandals, shoes are advisable. Rain coat, light working clothes during working hours and warm clothes at night, as it may turn out to be chilly; Torch or flash light and books and stationery for the children even sporting equipment such as soccer balls etc and board games.
