Environmental conservasion, Mangrove trees Planting and Teaching Foreign Languages in ZANZIBAR ISLANDS.
Beschreibung: Forest makes an important contribution to the environmental quality. Besides creating a renewable raw material, they can help to control soil erosion, flooding and avalanches, help to balance the earth’s atmosphere by carbon sequestration, improve the landscape, support variety of flora and fauna, and offer opportunities for leisure and recreation. The mangrove forests along south-west coast of Zanzibar island have been affected so much by human activities, including waste dumping, poor fishing methods, bush fire, cutting wood for domestic energy, construction and business. The impact of these practices has been very visible which includes increasing of water level, disappearing of various important tree species, change of seasons, draught, changing of fresh water to salt water etc.
Art der Arbeit: This project is organized to support the local environment management committees. Among many activities, the volunteers will be involved in: • Raising awareness on environmental issues • Collecting mangrove seeds • Tree planting (depending on the weather). Also volunteers will participate in various foreign languages classes that expected to empower local youth and women to carry on economic activities, hence improving their standard of living when they have foreign language skills.
