Construction of a Reception Centre for Young people with Familial Difficulties
Description: In order to respond better to the difficulties of the deprived and marginalized population and in sight of the socio-economic situation, the younger population of the municipality of Kpalimé is confronted to, the NGO ASTOVOT decided to build a Youth Centre. The Centre will ensure an integral development of these young people by giving them the opportunity to continue their education in the best conditions. This camp is the result of the work initiated in July 2015 by other volunteers who saw the need for this centre. For this summer, activities planned on the site will finish the building of the first dormitory and begin the second one.
Type of Work: Aims of the workcamp:
- Complete the work of masonry and carpentry of the new building to promote reception and care for young people from a difficult family situation;
- Put in the doors and windows of the finished building;
- Create a clean and welcoming site.
Work to do:
- The volunteers are going to help technicians (masons and carpenters) in various activities;
- Help to plaster the walls;
- Cut the wood for carpentry for the installation of the doors and windows;
- Volunteers will also take care of the creation of a green space (put in plants, turf and flowers)
Accommodation: The housing conditions are generally rudimental. The volunteers will be accommodated together in a single house with several bedrooms (usually 2 to 4 rooms). They will reside near the project site. Volunteers will sleep on mats made out of plastics or straw. But they can buy or bring along small airbeds or little floor-mats, and a mosquito net... In addition to the project activities, the volunteers can organize rides, meetings with local communities, parties and excursions in the surrounding villages. NB: Internet access and Electricity are limited according to areas of the project.
Language: The languages of the workcamp are English and French.
Requirements: The volunteers should bring adequate clothes with them (gloves, boots, etc.).
Approximate Location: Located approximately 120 km from Lomé, capital of Togo, the town of Kpalimé is a dream location for nature lovers and hikers looking for beautiful mountain landscape, natural waterfalls and tropical flora. With about approximately 105,000 inhabitants, Kpalimé is a touristic town in the Plateaux region. There are many artisanal workshops and retail outlets such as wood sculpture, weaving, wickerwork, decorated calabashes, batiks, painting, pottery, ceramics and mounted butterflies. Kpalimé receives many visitors especially in summer since the local population is very hospitable.
