Wooden Houses Xix: Russian Tom Sawyer Movement
Description: Everyone who loves the main hero of Mark Twain s book for sure remember how Tom Sawyer was painting the fence. This scene formed the basis of the Tom Sawyer fest i this non-profit festival brings together people who wants to make their cities better and move on from words to work, who pay attention to the value of historic environment and prefer to unite locals in an active community. All restoration and reconstruction activities of historical buildings during the festival are made by volunteers only with help from sponsors and fundraising. This event is a unique opportunity to see the beauty of old Russian architecture and join local community working with them hand in hand
Type of Work: Help with restoration of wooden buildings of the XIX-early XX centuries i cleaning of facades, primer, painting. All works will be supervised by specialists.Various skills could be obtained depending on the area of working: cleaning wood from the old paint, priming, painting, plastering, working with hand and power tools (grinder, angle grinders, screw gun). In addition, there is a great opportunity to improve the knowledge of the Russian language.

Accommodation: Accommodation in the premises of a Catholic Church. There is a kitchen, shower, toilets, kitchen with the possibility of self-catering. The dormitory is isolated from the rest of the Church, has male and female parts. You need to have a sleeping bag. Food is provided. Vegetarian meals possible.
Requirements: Volunteers should be ready to work with different tools and don t mind manual labor. We kindly ask you to specify your motivation and desire to take part in the project IN DETAIL.
Approximate Location: Samara, the ninth largest city in Russia and one of the oldest cities situated on the Volga river. Leisure: Samara is very interesting and beautiful city in the Bank of Volga river. It is possible to visit public beach, situated nearby, make river walks on the boat, go to the theatre and cinema. Concerts and excursions can be organized.
Notes: For those who will arrive in Moscow firstly, we can organise a pre-camp day with a city-tour and nice welcome evening. Please, notify us in advance if you are interested.
