Conservation of ancient paths and discovery of an unusual valley in the Pyrenees
Description: The aim of the project is the knowledge of the environment of Pyrenees from different points of view: discovering the ancient rural life of the place and his history during the Spanish civil war, studying the geology of Pyrenees and making flora and fauna activities.
Type of Work: The aim of the work camp is to preserve and recover the pathways of the Vall de Siarb by doing different tasks as: cutting invasive plants, removing the stones to let the path accessible, recovery of dry stone walls, habilitation and signage of the path etc.
Work day hours: 8:30am – 14:30h from Monday to Friday. There would be a break in the middle of the morning to rest and make a snack. However, depending on weather conditions the schedule can be modified.
Study Theme: The organization BalmesBlancs will prepare different activities like: trekking, geocaching, study of flora and Vall de Siarb ecosystem and the maintenance of the garden. Volunteers will have the opportunity to meet the local community and learn more about the civil war.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated in a room with bunk beds with 12 beds. There is also a kitchen, dining room, bathrooms with showers and a multipurpose room.
Volunteers will be splitted in 3 groups of 3 people, each group will prepare the food for one day and they will be rotating everyday.
Remember to bring your food for the first day!
Language: English, Spanish and Catalan
Requirements: Please bring: • Sleeping bag or sheets. • Comfortable clothing and footwear for working and walking and spare (especially footwear if it is wet). • Warm and waterproof clothing. • Small backpack for day to day. • Hat to protect yourself from the sun. • Sunscreen. • Sunglasses. • Swimsuit. • Towel. • Canteen. • shampoo, body soap, toothpaste ... etc. • First day meal (breakfast & lunch)
Approximate Location: Refugi Vall de Siarb, Catalunya.
Notes: There will be some activities during the work camp like excursions, visiting places like Catalunya’s National Park, Santa Cruz and climbing.
