Victoria Falls Social Work with Children
Description: The orphanage is a safe house for abused and vulnerable children in Victoria Falls. Since its inception in 2008, the orphanage has housed and saved many children who are dumped by their parents due to unwanted pregnancies and some have the most shocking stories you have ever heard. The orphanage is open to volunteers from 0900am to 1700hrs each day. It currently shelters over 71 children between the ages 1 year 4 months to 17 years of age. A reasonable number of the children are HIV/AIDS orphans who lost their parents from HIV/AIDS, some were deserted by their parents dumped in bushes, toilets among other places. The centre also acts as a drop in centre were abused children are kept in good health and safety while investigations are pending by responsible authorities.
Type of Work: Volunteers will help the team in the daily activities with children.
Accommodation: Vic Falls National Camp-Tents, Volunteers should bring their own sleeping bags and a small matress. No running water, Pit latrines will be used. Volunteers will be staying at a camping site in the national park
Requirements: Desire to work hard as well as being comfortable to work with people with from different backgrounds.
