Permaculture (Maraichage des produits bio)
Description: The project forms part of a sustainable development approach that respects the preservation of the biodiversity and the promotion of organic products. With this this project ASTOVOT tries to make organic products accessible to the public. The activities in the garden offer the possibility to discuss and deal with organic production and local consumption.
Type de travail: Aims of the workcamp
- Preserve biodiversity and the environment of the garden;
- promote the culture of organic products (vegetables and fruits);
- Encourage the local population to consume organic products Work in the project
- Prepare the patches: weeding, hoeing; make the compost;
- Install a conduit pipe water system in the garden;
- Protect the plants against the sun and parasites;
- Organize educational activities with children in the garden
- Water plants; reinforce the fence of the garden
Hébergement Accommodation and Food The housing conditions are generally rudimental. The volunteers will be accommodated together in a single house with several bedrooms (usually 2 to 4 rooms). They will reside near the project site. Volunteers will sleep on mats made out of plastics or straw. Internet access and Electricity are limited according to areas of the project. Volunteers will cook and eat together their meals. In the kitchen, they will use the local products. There are many various vegetables and fruits in location, so vegetarian and vegan diets can be continued. NB: Clean drinking water available. Free time The volunteers have the possibility to organize their free time and leisure activities taking in consideration the group experiment, available budget, time and available leisures. The possibilities are very diverse (regional tourism, local events, inhabitants meetings, green tourism, etc.). It is the responsibility of all volunteers to organize their time and to participate to the good dynamism of the group/ workcamp.
Langue The languages of the workcamp are English and French. it is desirable that the volunteers who only speak English master some basics in French.
Localisation approximative Located approximately 120 km from Lomé, capital of Togo, the town of Kpalimé is a dream location for nature lovers and hikers looking for beautiful mountain landscape, natural waterfalls and tropical flora. With about approximately 105,000 inhabitants, Kpalimé is a touristic town in the Plateaux region. There are many artisanal workshops and retail outlets such as wood sculpture, weaving, wickerwork, decorated calabashes, batiks, painting, pottery, ceramics and mounted butterflies. In addition to the public and administrative offices, the town has a cathedral, a scientific college, and a post-office, as well as several banks, medical centers, pharmacies, cyber-cafés and petrol stations. Kpalimé receives many visitors especially in summer since the local population is very hospitable.
Notes: TRANSPORT HUB The volunteers have to arrive at the International Airport of Lome. One of the members of ASTOVOT will welcome the volunteers there. He or she will assure that the volunteers take a taxi to Kpalime the same day or the day after the arrival, if it is too late. A hotel stay will be organised in this case for one night. The price of the taxi to the departure station for Kpalime or the hotel is around 3000 to 5000 FCFA (or 4.5 to 7.6 €). The ride to Kpalime will cost 2000FCFA (or 3€).
