Art of living (Monar Marianówek, near Kołobrzeg)
Description: SCI Poland has been successfully co-operating with Monar for over 20 years. Monar is the largest Polish NGO which helps people in difficult life circumstances, especially those socially excluded and those with drug addiction problems. Monar runs 30 centers of rehabilitation in different parts of Poland, 5 of them specialising in the therapy of young people. The center in Marianówek is one of them. It has a community of 70 young people, aged 15-25, coming from different backgrounds and areas of Poland, who take part in one-year on-site therapy. Beside dealing with daily life activities we use many different artistic, sport and outdoor events as tools in the process of therapy and rehabilitation.
Type of Work: The main task of volunteers is to socialise with the community by helping them in their everyday work (farm activities like gardening, taking care of animals, renovating, cleaning, kitchen shift, etc.), taking part in planned community events. Volunteers are more than welcome to share their interests and skills, organising workshops, games or any other sort of activities they would like to propose. It is possible that for a few days during the workcamp volunteers will go with the patients on a camping trip to the area near the sea/lakeside.
Study Theme: The problems of drug addiction, anti-drug therapy. Learning to live in a new, different way. Horse riding and possibly canoeing.
Accommodation: In the house of the community, in one room. Simple conditions: mattresses or sleeping mats. Please, bring sleeping bags with you!
Approximate Location: It is situated about 20 km from the Baltic Sea (near Kołobrzeg), in the picturesque rural area with park, trout ponds and stable with horses around.
Notes: No drugs, no alcohol. Be ready to get used to day routine;-)
