Migration, yoga and meditation. A natural way of living in mutual understanding and peace
Description: The Association S.D. "Archbishop Ettore di Filippo" was founded in February 2017 in Cantalupo nel Sannio, aiming to promote a culture in which welfare and speculation are healed by a genuine spirit of Welcome to our neighbour, prevarication by peace, fanaticism by interreligious dialogue, individualism by solidarity, environmental devastation and the extermination of other life forms by a deep connection with nature.
We intend to contribute to the improvement of the general conditions of acceptance in terms of wellbeing, social inclusion, to facilitate the meeting and understanding between asylum seekers, hospitality operators and local communities, to order to transform and resolve any conflict dynamics and thwart trafficking, delinquency, exploitation and begging.
Type of Work: The tasks to be performed during the camp will include practices of Yoga and meditation every morning, cleaning in turns of both private and public spaces, indoor and outdoor, contributing to the preparation of meals, as well as farm work, gardening, paths and the organization of intercultural activities with asylum seekers and refugees.
Study Theme: Daily study will focus on three macro-themes: religious dialogue, deep ecology and migrations. We will also provide numerous insights for future individual and collective investigation.
Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in three rooms (a triple room with a double bed and a single bed, two doubles), divided in case by gender if needed. The two toilets and the two showers are shared and reserved only for volunteers. The kitchen is located in the same building where you will be staying. Volunteers will be responsible for cleaning private and common spaces in turns, and for helping out in the kitchen. Meals will be consumed all together with coordinators and local collaborators. There is no need to carry mattresses, sheets nor towels.
Language: Italian, French, Spanish and Arabic apart from English are the workcamp spoken languages.
Requirements: It is hoped that volunteers have interest and/or have practical and theoretical experience related to Yoga and other spiritual, meditative and contemplative sciences as well as on interfaith dialogue, nonviolence, migrations, interculture, deep ecology, natural food and cook sovereignty. Skills related to arts, crafts, agriculture and natural medicine will be particularly appreciated.
Approximate Location: The camp takes place in Cantalupo nel Sannio, Isernia province, at the headquarters of the association, as well as B&B and House of Herbs. The village rises on the slopes of the imposing mountain of Matese and close to the Pescasseroli-Candela cattle track, an ancient transhumance route along the Italian peninsula. The surrounding territory, inhabited by Samnite populations, is dotted with archaeological sites, places of worship and pilgrimage, castles and hilltop villages, rich in artisan, agricultural, musical traditions, enchanting hilly Apennine landscapes, woodlands and rivers.
Notes: The diet during the camp will be vegetarian and vegan. Volunteers will have access to free and unlimited wi-fi throughout the building. In Cantalupo nel Sannio there are no ATMs: the nearest is 10 km in the town of Boiano. In the building it is not allowed to cook or eat meat nor fish and to smoke (not even on balconies or windows). It is also recommended not to enter with shoes: volunteers can leave them at the entrance and wear slippers. In the free time the volunteers can enjoy wonderful walks in the woods. The host partner will plan within the weekly program excursions and visits to places of particular historical and naturalistic interest in the region.
