Description: This project is actively working for SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities andCommunities) organized for the 3rd time together with the local NPO, Bizan Daigaku(B.D). OkawaVillage, the village with the smallest population in Japan, is located in the middle of Shikoku and issurrounded by 1000m class mountains. At the center of the village is a dam that was completed 47years ago, and the former village has sunk to the bottom of the dam. There are 400 inhabitants who counted 4000 at the peak. There are currently 25 children in the village.This work camp is a Yoshino River water system work camp that works in Okawa Village, which is the upper stream of the clear Yoshino River, and also in Tokushima City, which is the most downstream. Volunteers are expected to contribute ideas and practices on how to revitalize a small, depopulated village through the work camp, which has just started.Outcome of this workcamp; the first workcamp on March has done successfully. Volunteers didmainly conservation activities for the forest, cutting and carrying the woods. And they joined theworkshop how to promote the village specialties with local people.
Type of Work: Maintenance and management work and cleanup activities for forests, cherry blossoms and azaleas in village forests.Interaction with village children and learning support activities.Activities to support the resolution of local issues in Okawa Village proposed by villagers.Participating in activities in Tokushima City, an area down the Yoshino River that originates from thevillage. Volunteer will move to Tokushima city for a few days.
Study Theme: You can learn about the problem of depopulation in Japan and think about how to activate such a place.
Accommodation: Outdoor Learning Center. All meals will be cooked by volunteers by turns. Sleeping bag is NOTnecessary.

Requirements: - Participation fee6,000 JPY (43 USD by the rate on 2022 Sep. 2nd) of NICE Volunteers fee need to be paid in advance either by Card or PayPal. This is used for the project preparation/ coordination such as thetransportation of the camp leaders while the meals and the accommodation are provided by the local host by free.- RequirementPositive attitude, a willingness to work hard and communicate with Japanese local people, have funwith kids
