Description: SEEDS volunteers will work in the area of Lónsöræfi or the Lón district, located in the East of Iceland, we will work in the municipality of Hornafjörður, in cooperation with some locals and the Environmental Agency. SEEDS volunteers will be working on the hiking trails and walking paths in this mountanious area.

Type of Work: The main tasks will be making and marking the walking trails on the different routes in the area. The work is physical and tools may include the sledgehammer and crowbar. Additional tasks may be cleaning or beautifying the surroundings, like hand-picking garbage or collecting trash blown by the wind or brought by some visitors. Some of the trails are located in an isolated area and the group may spend the day at the work site, therefore it will be needed to prepare packed lunches in the morning. The working day normally runs from 09:00 to 17:00 with breaks for lunch and coffee; No previous experience is necessary but the work is demanding and requires a good physical condition. Volunteers need to be prepared for working and walking in a raw landscape and sometimes cold weather.

Accommodation: This project gives SEEDS volunteers the opportunity to live in a very beautiful mountain hut which has been very popular among visitors travelling into the interior or the highlands. It may be possible to stay in tents some nights. Volunteers will sleep on mattresses in shared rooms. Please bring your own sleeping bag. There are cooking facilities, kitchen, bathrooms and showers in the hut. Volunteers will share the duties of preparing food, cooking meals and cleaning. Everyone is expected to show consideration for their companions.

Language: English will be the language in the camp; intermediate conversational skills are needed.

Requirements: Participation fee EUR 250 (Euros). The fee can either be transferred in advance via bank transfer, or paid in cash on arrival. The participation fee does not include the transportation from Reykjavík to the camp and back, which will cost EUR 75 (Euros) one way or EUR 150 (Euros) both ways.

Organization Description: SEEDS is an Icelandic non-governmental, non-profit volunteer organisation designed to promote intercultural understanding, environmental protection and awareness through work on environmental, social and cultural projects within Iceland. SEEDS works closely with local communities, local authorities and other Icelandic associations both to develop projects in partnership, aimed at fulfilling an identified need, and to give assistance to established initiatives. Projects are designed to be mutually beneficial to all involved: the volunteers, the local hosting communities and Iceland as a whole. Every year host more than 1200 international volunteers from 50 to 60 different countries.
