Placement: The fee ensures your placement with BWA, which acts as the host organization for your activities. 2. Organisation: It covers the cost associated with the planning and organization of workcamps, which begins a year prior to the commencement of the program. 3.Communication: The fee contributes to the administrative costs related to general communication and coordination between participants and the host organization. 4. Feeding: Lastly, the fee helps cover the costs of providing meals and sustenance for participant during time with host organisation. Please note that this fee is non-refundable

Description: SOS Children’s Villages Botswana is a non-governmental organization that cares for children who have lost parental care or are at risk of losing it. Operations started in 1987 in Tlokweng and spread to Francistown in 1998, and Serowe in 2008 in response to growing child protection needs of the country, hence over 30 years of existence in Botswana. The organization is a member of SOS Children’s Villages International, which started in Imst, Austria, 1949 and operates in 137 countries worldwide. Vision Every child belongs to a family. Family is the heart of society. Within a family, each child is protected and enjoys a sense of belonging. Here, children learn values, share responsibilities and form life-long relationships.

Type of Work: TYPE OF WORK SOS has some ongoing general maintenance that will be done in phases. Most of the activities that can be done are playing with children, teaching them how to read and write, tutoring. Other works include painting of some buildings and the projects are subject to change since volunteers from other agencies keep on doing them. Projects will likely be confirmed when camp date is near.

Approximate Location: LOCATION SOS Children's Village Tlokweng The Tlokweng SOS Village is located in Lesunyaneng ward in Tlokweng Village, South-Eastern part of Botswana. The centre opened its doors to the first children in 1987, and currently operates both family-based care and family strengthening programmes. The family strengthening programme covers 6 villages in a radius of 50 kilometres around the SOS Tlokweng Villages.

Notes: Cost of Participation in a Work Camp

The work camp participation fee is €250 per participant, which covers simple work camp meals, arrangements for the whole work camp preparation in terms of communication, electronic mailing and transport for meeting with different stakeholders. BWA organizes transport for participants from the airport in Gaborone to Mochudi (BWA Head Office) at a nominal fee of € 40 per participant, where participants are inducted prior to departure to work camps destination.

Organization Description: The Botswana Workcamps Association (BWA) is a non-governmental, non-profit making voluntary organization registered with the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs in April 1980 under the Societies Act. With headquarters in Mochudi in the Kgatleng District, BWA collaborates with local and national structures and bodies and is member of the Southern Africa Workcamps Cooperation (SAWC). It is affiliated to the Botswana Council of Non-Governmental Organizations (BOCONGO) and to the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Services (CCIVS). The mission of Botswana Workcamps Association is to enhance leadership development through community voluntary discipline, participation and increase self-reliance for broad based sustainable development in construction, environmental management and conservation, economic empowerment, psychological and physiological rehabilitation and leadership development BWA draws its membership from junior, secondary, tertiary schools and out of school youth. BWA exists under three programmes, which include, leadership development, workcamps and youth centre development.
