Festival of popular education "Kékéli 2018”
Description: This project initiated by the NGO ASTOVOT in 2016 promotes the Togolese culture through different artist groups every summer. With the aim to highlight the educational, social and artistic dimensions of local folklore this year's edition has the topic "Culture promotes peace and non -violence". This festival offers the opportunity for citizens to be heard and the possibility for them to express themselves.
Type of Work: Aims of the workcamp: The aim of the festival is to promote local artistic and folklore groups, offering them a place for expression. Sensibilizing the public, they can exploit their talents. This year's activities will focus on the thematic of peace and non-violence.
Work to do:
- Organize workshops on the thematic;
- Raise awareness for peace and non-violence in the village;
- Support the artistic and folkloric groups in the preparation for the festival;
- Organize the festival: communication and logistics;
- Arrangement of the hall of the spectacle;
- Installation of stands;
- Planning of the program and organization of the staff
Accommodation: The housing conditions are generally rudimental. The volunteers will be accommodated together in a single house with several bedrooms (usually 2 to 4 rooms). They will reside near the project site. Volunteers will sleep on mats made out of plastics or straw. But they can buy or bring along small airbeds or little floor-mats, and a mosquito net... In addition to the project activities, the volunteers can organize rides, meetings with local communities, parties and excursions in the surrounding villages. NB: Internet access and Electricity are limited according to areas of the project.
Language: The languages of the workcamp are English and French.
Requirements: Diverse prizes and attestations will be given to the different active groups. The volunteers can bring along pedagogic and didactic tools (posters, audio-visual documents, etc.) concerning the promotion of peace and non-violence.
Approximate Location: Agomé-Tomégbé is situated about 15 miles outside of Kpalimé. It was built behind a river called "Agato" and is surrounded by hills and mountains (mount Kloto). The population is about 4000 inhabitants with a very high youth rate. Several coffee and cocoa plantations can be found in the village. It has immense cultural resources too and provides many touristic spots (i.e.: bathing in the waterfalls of Agbatui and Kpoéta) Agomé-Tomégbé is known for its untouched and humid nature.
