Life in a Castle (Tonndorf near Erfurt)
Description: The castle (a former fortress) with its tower, a well and a trench and some other buildings are situated on a 40 acres property. It is surrounded by woods, orchards, meadows and vegetable gardens. 34 adults and 30 children between 0 and their late 50s belong to the community. Together, they bring this special place back to life. They build apartments and work spaces, plant and harvest, organize festivals, markets, lectures, concerts, seminars and work camps with all in all about 5.000 visitors each year. They are committed to making the people aware of their surroundings and to spread sustainable and social ways of living.
Type of Work: Experience the versatile work in a eco- village-gardening, work in die vineyard, canning fruit, produce firewood, renovation work on the house, work in the community kitchen .
Study Theme: Living in a community, understanding of collective planning, decision-making and management as well as the beauty and the troubles of communal life
Accommodation: In tents and guestrooms, organic meals together with the community, shared bathrooms, compost toilets

Approximate Location: Tonndorf Castle is situated in the Weimar county – the so called „Toscany of the East“. Tonndorf is a small village located south of Weimar and Erfurt in Thuringia.
Notes: Inspiration in the following fields is possible: alternative learning and teaching, self-subsistence, supporting agriculture free of genetic manipulation, ecological building techniques (including straw bale-building); excursions to Weimar (Goethe, Bauhaus etc.) and Erfurt.
