Itinerant Project to Support Environmental and Artistic Local Initiatives
Description: The GAL, a Local Action Group puts forward an itinerant volunteering project that aims at supporting different local initiatives in the region of l’Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse in Belgium. The volunteers will travel to three places: 1) "The chatting gardens of Brogne", a civic initiative in Sain-Gérard. It is communal garden arranged by and for the locals with fruit trees, vegetable plants, and many other enlightening ideas. Its purpose is to promote and foster gatherings, sharing, etc; 2) the commune of Mettet which proposes activities with bees on the one side and outdoor areas management on the other; 3) the cultural centre of Walcourt, where different creative workshops related to music, video, and plastic art take place during the year.
Type of Work: Firstly, volunteers will help the community of «The Chatting Gardens of Brogne (Les jardins papotes de Brogne)» to work in their communal garden. They will have to make planting tray at height so as to integrate peole with reduced mobility and help with the maintenance of the vine. -Secondly, in the commune of Mettet, the group will spend two days in the road of bees to camouflage a trailer for the beekeepers and discover beehives. They will also help to restrict the invasive plant «Renouée du Japon», Finally, in Centre Culturel de Walcourt, the group will help with small tasks of maintenance and the preparation of «La Fête du Parc», a party about Art, Expression and Creativity full of concerts and animations. The volunteers will be allowed to attend all of the proprosed activities.

Accommodation: In different buildings depending on the projects (bring a mat and a sleeping bag with you).
Language: English but basics in French are always welcome in order to talk to the locals.
Requirements: Having an interest in working outdoors and cultural activities.
Approximate Location: In the communes of Brogne, Mettet, and Walcourt, in the Province of Namur (South of Belgium), between the cities of Namur, Dinant and Charleroi.The group will have the opportunity to relax at the Lac de Bambois.
