Description: Trees can play an important role to mitigate climate change. There is huge potential for tree planting, forest protection and agro forestry in Bangladesh to mitigate climate change. Roadside plantation has also been one way to increase tree cover in a densely populated district where no natural woodland remains. Trees reverse the impacts of land degradation. They provide food, energy, and income. Trees help communities achieve long-term economic and environmental sustainability. They filter the air and help stave off the effects of climate change both globally and locally. Due to the river erosion people were migrated to other place few years back and recently came back to their old space as the lands rise. This communities are the most vulnerable due to its geographical location.
Type of Work: community spaces including educational institution Symbolic demonstration, Environment friendly tree plantation, earth work.
Study Theme: Discussion on Climate change and our role to make it friendly, visit local community to build social awareness.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay at community house in Char (Island) in the bank of Padma river. They will share common bathroom and toilet. Volunteers will be given simple vegetarian/Non-vegetarian food, to cook and manage themselves. Overseas volunteer will be hosted by SCI BD before and after the camp.
Language: English should be spoken among participants. Local language is Bengali
Requirements: Working shoes, Gloves, Working dress, Sleeping bag, Insect repellent, toiletries & good humor.
