Orphans and street children empowerment
Description: The volunteers will get involved in provision of mentorship in leadership and development, assistance in tuition and learning of basic education subjects taught at schools eg English, Math, Science, Creative Art, Reading, feeding , which includes offering arm meal during lunch break and well as helping in cooking and preparing the meals, bereavement/psychological counseling, education support, recreational activities (games, drawing, arts, and music), training of care givers in HIV prevention and home based care, and training them in basic computer skills, monitoring, data capturing of the OVC, street children, community outreach and home visits. Drug abuse education and its effect, Rehabilitation and re-integration back to the society, sanitation and hygiene education.
Type of Work: The volunteers will assist in life skills teaching, feeding, protection and rehabilitation of orphans and street, health and hygienic education, sports and recreational activities, child rights and advocacy campaign, child counseling and memory book development program, capacity building, gender development and sensitization activities. The volunteers will participate as a team in the whole duration of the camp. Volunteers can share and exchange different cultural forms during the workcamp. The orientation for the workcamp is scheduled at KCEP offices for the day before the workcamp start at Kipepeo Community Resource Centre.
Accommodation: KCEP provides accommodation that is shared by all the volunteers. Volunteers must bring their own tents, sleeping bags, mosquito nets or repellants, spot light, cap, sun cream, personal effects i.e. toiletries. Internet, supermarkets and banking are available in Luanda town, which is 20 minutes’ drive from KCEP offices.
Requirements: Commitment of volunteers; Project or work camps are not just cheap holidays; hard work and full participation is required. Volunteers should be self-driven, adaptable, people oriented and tenacious. Also bring sun cream, mosquito repellent, working gloves, boots/shoes, light working clothes during working hours, warm clothes at night, flash light, personal effects (toiletries).
Approximate Location: KCEP is located around 30 km west of Kisumu and 400 km west of Nairobi, capital city of the Republic of Kenya.
Notes: As a matter of fact the orientations shall be held on one day before the workcamp begins. The participants must arrive at least two days before the workcamp begins to have rest time and also to get to know each other, as well to get knowledge of the host village before the orientation. Participants will also have a chance to go the town Luanda from Kima to familiarize themselves with the transport system, markets, banks, supermarkets among others before they depart for the camp. All workcamp orientations are held at KCEP offices. Please, ensure that your travel arrangements would allow at least two days of reaching before the start of the workcamp so that you participate in the orientation process before the start of the workcamp.
