Description: FENAGIE PECHE (National Federation of Economic Interest Groups of fischermen) of Senegal was created 6 august 1990 in Joal by fishermen and small-scale artisanal fishworkers, it now has 45,000 members, including near 60% of women with a workforce of approximately 2,500 EIGs. FENAGIE PECHE aims to improve the social position, the working conditions (safety at sea, ecc) and the rights of fishermen and fish workers, to protect the marine environment and to promote a better exploitation of fisheries resources and a sustainable development of local communities.
Type of Work: Volunteers will support local community working in a mangrove conservation and restoration project, helping local farmers and fishworkers and promoting environmental issues to the students of the primary school of the village.
Study Theme: Community lifestyle and organization, environmental issues.
Accommodation: Arriving between 5/07 and 7/07 in Dakar, departing from Dakar between 27/07 and 29/07. The transfer travel from Dakar to Dionewar will be 08/07; the return travel to Dakar from Dionewar will be July 26/07. In Dakar, volunteers will be hosted in the headquarters of the Federation. In Dionewar, volunteers will be hosted by local families. During the transfer from Dakar to Dionewar volunteers will be accompanied by members of FENAGIE PECHE; the camp leader, himself from FENAGIE PECHE, and the hosting families will facilitate volunteers during their stay.

Approximate Location: Dionewar is a small island located in the region of Sine-Saloum Delta. This UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and national park is situated about 150 km south of Dakar.
Notes: Camp Participation fee (152 €) will cover local travels costs, accommodation and a tour of the Marine Protected Area by pirogue. FENAGIE PECHE will provide all local travels (from and to the airport, from and to Dionewar).
