Green paths of peace: where environment and social inclusion meets (Pettinengo, Piedmont region)
Description: Pacefuturo (PF) promotes the culture of peace through sustainable actions like: application of good practices to make peace with the environment, the realization of concrete solidarity actions (offering hospitality to refugees), workshops focusing on local arts such as intertwine, tailoring, apiculture. The association and the Municipality of Pettinengo propose the whole municipal territory as a meeting place where to start a reflection about a sustainable future to give next generations a message of hope and enhancement of the landscape. That's why the project “ Green Paths of Peace” was born, developing as a concrete example of "Good practices" thanks to the active collaboration of the associations with the territory.
Type of Work: The goal is to add value to local paths system: courses joining the past, the present and the future for an integrated and sustainable touristic development of the territory belonging the community of Pettinengo. The work to be done is in the so called "workers' paths" and in the areas of industrial archeology. Garden activities will be done by using shears, rakes, hoe, spade and other specific tools (work should be done together with the staff, the local volunteers of PF and refugees hosted by the association.
Study Theme: Study part will be held during afternoon or evening sessions concerning peace, social co-operation in Italy, approach to the legislation about migration, culture and landscape. Site visits are forseen. Proposed workshop: site description and artistic espression on the landscape of Villa Piazzo. Few techniques will be used such as writing, drawing, photography. There will be a visit to the Pistoletto Foundation who is partner of Pacefuturo.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay at the house near to Villa Piazzo in rooms with three beds. Showers and bathrooms are shared. Meals will be prepared by the association Pacefuturo and served at the “Caffeteria di Villa Piazzo” during the normal hours of restaurant service and sometimes toghether with refugees. The area has free Wi-Fi.
Requirements: Volunteers should be a nature lovers, with good manual skills, ability of integrations, curiosity about the cultures of the developing countries, have interest and senstivity for the landscape, passion for arts, music, artistic expressions.

Notes: Volunteers must wear their own safety shoes (compulsory for italian law DLGS 81/08) and work cloths. Only work tools will be provided by pacefuturo. Volunteers have to write in the application form their time of arrival at Biella train station, pacefuturo will coordinate the transport from Biella to Pettinengo (10 kms). Volunteers will have to bring sheets or sleeping bag and personal towels. Please inform us in advance about specific diets/intolerances. Meals will be tipically italian/mediterranean.
