La décentrale (St. Imier BE)
Description: At the Décentrale property on Mont-Soleil, Switzerland, we create a collaborative space for all the people that already are or want to become changemakers for radically innovative approaches to current and future challenges in society. Through self-organisation, we reduce our reliance on the current institutions and create resilient, abundant community. Our Synergiehub project provides the structure where this self-organization can take place. The Synergiehub is an open network that invites you to participate in projects for fair economy, grassroots governance, free education and citizen journalism. The project includes actvities in the domains agriculture, housing, health and technology. We strive to co-create a future that embraces Permaculture principles in all aspects of life.
Type of Work: You will be helping in garden and in house. To go on with the project, there are various tasks to be done, like cleaning parts after wood-cutting, making piles of the branches, structural renovation of a veranda, making landscaping for a herbal garden. The mix of park trees, open meadows and forest provide a good opportunity to develop an edible forest garden. There are also some small additional tasks such as wall painting. Work tasks can be rotated among volunteers and need to be planned spontaneously according to the weather conditions. The gardening/outside work will be done even despite a rainy weather, so be prepared for harsher conditions.
Accommodation: The old art-nouveau villa houses up to 16 people and provides workshop rooms, the kitchen and social living space. There are dormitory rooms with beds, blankets and pillows, but we recommend that you also bring a sleeping bag. The surrounding park offers additional shelter (caravan, tipi, yurt). You can also bring a tent for yourself, if you like.
Meals will be vegeterian.
Language: The people in the project speak German, French, Spanish, Serbo-Croatian and of course English. The local language is French and Swiss German.
