Description: The major aspect of this project will be focusing on community life styles. Volunteers, local youth and community members will have an opportunity to experience and exchange both work and leisure behaviour patents in various activities, attitudes, interest, opinions and values. This activity will also provide an opportunity to reflect on each involved person’s self-image or self-concept, the way they see themselves and how they believe they are seen by others. This is expected to be a composite of motivation influenced by factors such as culture, family, reference groups and social classes. In realization of the above objective, participants will join a series of activities that in sports.
Type of Work: Empowering children in Sports development skills
Intensive work camp project with hands on initiativie
The SAVWA Sports Development Programme will require volunteers to be involved in different sports activities such as learning simple sports and games activities. Volunteers will interact and teach children sports and artistic activities they have. Trained volunteers will be able to interact with the community too.
This is an exciting project as volunteers have opportunity to work with different communities and interact with children in sports development and have also the opportunity to be hosted by family members for their period of stay in the country.
Study Theme: Development of young players' basic skills and techniques. This will include; co-ordinate coaching sessions around topics such as development of ball control, accurate passing, keeping possession, game tactics, and moving into space Assist to plan match strategies and take practice games Assist in team selection evening matches Organize the final competitions and awarding.
Accommodation: Accommodation will be in a house and venue still to be confirmed both in Soshanguve. Participants will be required to bring their own sleeping bags. The accommodation has a simple bathroom with shower and there is running water. The accommodation and work place have flushing toilets and do have electricity but should expect normal power cuts lasting to 4 hours on various time slots in the week. (Not every day)
Language: The community has multi-cultural people and English is mostly spoken with local languages such as Sotho, Zulu, and Tshwana to name a few.
Requirements: Qualification of participants: Open minded, ready to interact with other people of different cultural background - Positive attitude - Willing to share his/her experiences - Flexible to live/stay in simple living conditions - Flexible to eat local food - Ready to do academic work on the project and No experience needed at all. Willingness to guide students especially in cultural activities
Notes: What you should bring for these activities ▪ Music and souvenirs from your country or culture. ▪ Small music equipment you may wish to use. ▪ Food recipes (you will prepare one meals for the team). ▪ Snacks, sweets from your country to share during public events, community engagement and cultural presentations. ▪ Photo, post cards, banners, t-shirts etc., to present your country, city or community. ▪ Presentation about your country (together with other volunteers from your country. You will have 2 hours maximum after dinner to present your country and in the most creative way). ▪ English- dictionary or dictionary translated to your language as per your preference ▪ Small gifts from your country to share with the group
