Summer film festival: Raising awareness on climate change
Description: The summer documentary film festival in Valchiusella (Piedmont Alps) will be organized in 2019 for a second consecutive year. The project is initiated by CinemAmbiente Association that for more than 20 years has been organizing The National Cinema Festival in Turin and other events in Italy on environmental topics. It is carried out in collaboration with local organizations aiming to promote a culture of environment through movie projections, outdoor activities, excursions and debates. The audience is composed of local residents and tourists. The general theme of the workcamp is the combate against / adaptation to climate change, addressed both at local and global level. Moreover, the specific topic this year is the engagement of young people in an international context.
Type of Work: Organizational and logistic support by the volunteers will be needed for the planned activities, in particular for excursions and projections: inspection of footpaths (including cleaning the surrounding areas), prepartions of the halls, reception of the audience, participation in the educational workshops for children. In case that an information stand is installed, the volunteers may be asked to supervise its activities. A free camping area will be settled, where the volunteers will contribute to the cleaning and arrangement activities. Moreover, they will be involved in the online communication and promotion activities, in particular on social media. On average, the scheduled work will be 4 hours during the day and 2 hours in the evening (pre- and post- projection / debate).
Study Theme: The main topics of the discussions will be two: 1) getting to know the territory of Valchiusella, starting from its historical, artistic and natural aspects, through guided tours, excursions, peer-to-peer trainings with local youngnsters; 2) global climate change (addressing the causes, consequences and possible solutions), through documentary projections and subsequent debates with experts and guests (in Italian, but when possible, translated in English with the help of the local volunteers).
Accommodation: The volunteers will stay in a communal complex in Traversella, accommodated in two mixed rooms with bunk beds (mattresses, sheets and blankets are provided, but it is recommended to bring their own sleeping bags and towels). There are showers and two toilets on each floor. On the ground floor there are shared kitchen and dining room, which will be managed entirely by the volunteers. The facility will be shared with the volunteers of the medical center. There is no Wi-Fi.
