Community work and local agriculture in Santa Giusta (Sardinia)
Description: The Social Cooperative 'Comunità Il Seme' is an initiative of young people with disabilities, their parents, social workers and agricultural technicians. It carries out different activities in the socio-agricultural field and organizes horticultural, nursery, cultural and social trainings aiming to support social inclusion and development of autonomy for young disabled people. In adittion, in the community also live youngsters in conflict with the law which are accompanied by a team of professional educators. Agricultural activities are organized by the local team and are carried out together with young people from the community and people with disabilities who live in the nearby towns.
Type of Work: Manual activities: work in a social farm, outdoor activities and preparation of gastronomic products (for example, pasta, bread and pizza workshops). Manual agricultural work will take place from early morning during the coolest hours of the day. In addition, there will be a realization of artistic activities such as the preparation of art park and a mural, coordinated by a Mexican artist. Artistic and creative activities will take place mainly in the afternoon or evening. At the end of the workcamp, the volunteers will help organizing a final event to present the art works. Excursions will also be organized in the area.
Study Theme: - Preparation of the volunteers for the performance of activities and discussions on the historical/cultural/environmental context of the territory carried out by the partner Association.
- Presentation of agenda, cooperative activities and conflict management strategies. Thematic discussions: cultural learning and North - South imbalances of the World. SCI promotes trainings through the use of non-formal education methods, where the participant is stimulated to participate actively and creatively during the activities.
Accommodation: Volunteers will sleep in rooms of up to 3 people, equipped with beds. It is indispensable to bring your own personal hygiene materials and towels, sleeping bag is not necessary. Shared bathrooms, with shower. Equipped kitchen. The facility where the workcamp will take place is located on the outskirts of S. Giusta. The center is within walking distance. Moreover, the town of Oristano is reachable by public transport.
Requirements: Being able to adapt easily to different conditions; working in a group; predisposition to manual work and carrying out outdoor activities; being interested in social, cultural and environmental issues. Motivated to work with children, young people and elderly. At certain times of the day, work can be tiring due to the hot weather.

Notes: During the free time it will be possible to reach easily by public transport the nearby city of Oristano and its beaches. During this period, several traditional festivals are organized in the city of Oristano. Moreover, there are numerous sites of archaeological interest that can be visited in the area. The camp is located about 1 hour and 30 minutes by train from the city of Cagliari, the capital of the Sardinia region.
