Embark on the Peace Caravan
Description: The peace caravan has been imagined in the framework of the "100 actions for peace" of the SCI. This caravan will go through France with 4 stops in different local projects. The aim of this caravan is to campaign for non-violence, peace, multiculturalism, volunteering during the whole trip. At the same time, the volunteers will help if needed in the local project they are visiting. If the project doesn't need labour force at this specific time, then the volunteer will take part in workshops, street actions, micro projects and discussions to spread SCI values
Type of Work: There will be many different tasks to do given the caravan will stop on 4 different projects. Manual work, meeting about volunteering with former volunteers, one-time campaign about non-violence in the street. The whole project is the embodiment of the SCI's values. The volunteers will be ambassadors for the SCI all the way long and the main purpose is to make people aware that non-violence is not an utopia but that anyone can be part of it! This project is unusual because it is a mobile one, the volunteers will live a great experience travelling through France with different means such as boat, train, bicycle...
Study Theme: The caravan will be international, interacting with local people and the aim is to get different people to meet each other to get further than stereotypes and prejudices. This is the way to get the international solidarity the SCI is looking for. The caravan will also talk about sustainability and ecology all the way, they will travel environmentally-friendly all the way.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be sleeping in different places throughout the all project. they will sometimes sleep in dorms, sometimes sleep over, sometimes in a tent. Therefore, volunteers have to bring with : a sleeping bag and a tent. Then what you need to sleep comfortably outside (only 2 nights) is up to you, for example a pillow, a mattress...
Language: English will be the spoken language during the camp
Requirements: The volunteers will be promoting peace, taught about peace and meet former volunteers. Therefore, it would be great if the volunteers are interested to keep advocating for peace after the camp. We expect them to become peace messenger back home As this camp will be an itinerant journey, volunteers with a taste for roaming/ mobility are more than welcome
Approximate Location: The caravan will travel through France. It will start near Paris, then go to Britany before reaching Bordeaux and ended a bit north of Paris.
Notes: SCI FRANCE APPLIED FOR A EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY CORP FUNDING FOR THIS PROJECT. IN CASE IT SUCCEEDS THE PROJECT WILL ONLY BE OPEN TO EUROPEAN VOLUNTEERS UNDER 30 !
