Experience Czech Countryside in Vselibice
Description: The workcamp is organized in a small village of Vselibice, Northern Bohemia, in cooperation with the local municipality.The first written reports on Vselibice date back to 1419. Last year the village celebrated 600 years since its establishment Residents are often getting involved in social life and during a year, they organize many events: balls, Christmas and Easter workshops, events for children and the elderly. The village is well known for its active association activities involving many citizens. Vselibice has its own volunteer firefighters, gamekeepers/ranges, motorcycle club and Vselibices women club.The aim of this workcamp is to bring an international atmosphere to the local community, to participate in the development and maintenance of the village and also to help get ready a new kindergarten. In this workcamp, you are actively working for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of Sustainable Cities and Communities (UN SDG11) and Life on Land (UN SDG15).
Type of Work: Work: The work will take place in the village and its area and it will be mainly manual. Currently the construction of the kindergarten is underway and should be opened in September 2020. During the summer, volunteers will take part in finishing works in the kindergarten such as cleaning, furniture assembly, unpacking of equipment and preparation of outdoor areas. Volunteers will also assist with cleaning the nearby stream and forest or painting the walls and cleaning the cultural centre. The work will be diverse and it will be based on the weather and state of completion of the kindergarten. Volunteers will definitely see the results of their activities. Work will not be very physically challenging. Please bring some old clothes that can get dirty or damaged.I Study part: There will be different events organized for volunteers such as excursion to volunteer firefighters, introduction to local crafts (beekeeping, baskets making or gingerbread baking), traditional bonfire including roasting sausages and evening screening of a Czech movie.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated in the attic area of the fire department building, which has been renovated. They will sleep in the loft upstairs equipped with a kitchen and a spacious meeting room and a small room. There is a shower and toilet. Another possibility of showering is located near the water tank within walking distance. Please bring your own sleeping mat, sleeping bag and a pillow. The volunteers will cook all the meals together as a group.
Requirements: Volunteers are required to bring their own sleeping mat, sleeping bags and a pillow. Please also bring old work clothes which can get ruined, high waterproof outdoor shoes or rubber boots/wellingtons and raincoat, hiking gear. 17 years old volunteers need parental authorisation.
Approximate Location: The workcamp will take place in Vselibice, a village in Liberec Region in the north of the Czech Republic. It has 554 inhabitants. There is a small grocery store in the village. https://www.vselibice.cz/Leisure time: During the weekend from 1st and 2nd of August 2020, volunteers will have the possibility to take a trip to Jested, a local transmitter and dominant of the region. Other interesting places in the region include a city of Liberec, Museum of Czech author Karolina Svetla and Johanite commandery in the nearby town of Cesky Dub or a natural reserve Czech Paradise. It is also possible to organize a tournament in darts/ping pong/volleyball with locals. On August 8th there will be an intercultural afternoon for locals, during which volunteers can present their countries - lecture, tasting of their food, thematic competitions or English speed course for local children, etc.
