Sustainable Food Locally and Globally
Description: Elonkierto is an agricultural exhibition park, where visitors can learn about Finnish agriculture, how agricultural research is done and how it is applied in the natural environment. The park is created for the whole family with plenty of things to see and do and in the summer time there are different events taking place. During the camp the volunteers have a chance to learn about sustainable food production and understanding the ecosystems linked to it both locally and globally.
Type of Work: The volunteers will help with the farm work and gardening in Elonkierto. They participate in organizing a FoodBizz 3030 hackathon event for youth, helping with workshops and evaluation of the event. Volunteers also help with both preparations and the running of a children's agricultural exhibition and finally cleaning up after the exhibition. They have opportunity to also create some program for the children's agricultural exhibition. Volunteers should be prepared to work outside majority of the time and have suitable clothes for that. Families are welcome with kids over 6 years old as long as they can keep up with the parents.
Study Theme: Sustainable food systems
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay with local families (within close distance) in smaller groups, so the accommodation will be shared and volunteers will have beds, toilets and showers at their use. Breakfast and lunch will be served to the volunteers and dinner and snacks they make themselves. In the free time there are several possibilities for seeing local nature parks, going berry picking or mushroom picking, trying sauna and swimming and much more. Volunteers should bring their own sleeping bags if they want to go visit local nature parks.
