Description: The workcamp is organised in cooperation with the organisation Opri se at the Hauenstejn Castle. The castle was founded in the 13th century but after WWII slowly turned into ruin. The castle has been under reconstruction since the year 2 000 thanks to the new owner Pavel PalackE 1/2, Opri se and other volunteers. The volunteers will join teens from Czech childrens homes and together they will help with the reconstruction, everyday tasks and maintenance of the castle. The aim of the workcamp is also to create an international environment that will motivate teenagers from children s homes to actively use English. At this workcamp, you will actively contribute to the achievement of UN SDG10 Reduced Inequalities and UN SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Type of Work: The main aim of the workcamp is to help to revive the castle and to enable youth from childrens homes and foster care institutions to meet people from different parts of the world, practice English and break stereotypes. The work will be mainly manual and carried out outdoors. You will be cutting shrubs, chopping wood, cleaning courtyards, painting furniture, cleaning the castle and its surroundings, basic landscaping and renovations (digging, preparing paths etc.), and other tasks related to the general maintenance and reconstruction of the castle.Study part: Volunteers will get to know about the history of the castle and its nearby surroundings. Volunteers will go on a guided tour of the castle and learn about its complicated history, visit interesting places in the Karlovy Vary region (Kyselka, Ostrov, KlEUUterec, mining museum, new exposition of the reliquary of St. Maurus, ValeA, castles around umburk, PerUtejn, Lestkov) etc.
Study Theme: Volunteers will get to know about the history of the castle and its nearby surroundings. Volunteers will go on guided tour of the castle and learn about its complicated history, visit interesting places in the Karlovy Vary region (Kyselka, Ostrov, Klasterec, mining museum, new exposition of the reliquary of St. Maurus, Valec, castles around Sumburk, Perstejn, Lestkov) etc.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated in the castle attic and sleep on the beds. It is necessary to bring your own sleeping bag. There are shared toilets and showers available. Lunch and dinner will be prepared by the castle cook, and breakfast and snacks will be prepared by the local partner. Volunteers will have an opportunity to prepare national dishes. Bring your favourite recipes and if needed also the specific ingredients.

Requirements: There is a participation fee of 150 EUR/3700 CZK. The fee covers the main leaders salary, free time and educational activities, and car travels within the project. We require the volunteers to send this amount directly by a bank transfer before the workcamp starts. Bank details and the deadline for payment will be provided in the acceptance email. Volunteers with hearing impairments/deafness or with social, economic or some health disadvantages can also be accepted to this workcamp.
Approximate Location: Location: Horni Hrad (Hauenstejn), the closest towns are Ostrov and StrEU nad OhE in The Ore Mountains, Karlovy Vary region. Leisure time: Trip to Karlovy Vary, hikes, a laser game, climbing, playing sports and games in the area of the castle, board games, campfire and much more
Notes: The group will consist of international volunteers, 2 Czech campleaders and about 10 Czech volunteers from Opri se organisation, aged 13 – 18 years old (youth from foster care institutions) and their team leaders. Czech and international volunteers will spend all the time together during work and free-time activities.
