Join Basida, A Social Rehabilitation Center
Description: BASIDA is an NGO that provides medical and psychosocial support to HIV-positives, drugs addicted people and others with special needs. Since 1990, it has opened three centres; all of them run by a multi-professional voluntary staff. One of these three centres is located in Aranjuez, a village located in Madrid County.
Type of Work: Participating in the everyday life of the Centre, mainly giving a hand with the maintenance of the place (cooking, doing the laundry, cleaning, helping with the carpentry or gardening on a rotating basis, etc.). Personal care of residents who might need it (such as helping out to get dressed) is also a possible task, but only if you really feel prepared for doing it. An important part of your stay will be socialising with the community of the centre. You have to take into account that you will be living in a therapeutic community.
Study Theme: A workshop on drugs and HIV, socio-medical approach: “Course on Comprehensive care for people in social exclusion”, is organised during the first week.
Accommodation: In the Centre there are rooms with beds for the volunteers. Meals will be taken with the residents in the common dining-room.
Requirements: Any kind of drugs is strictly forbidden inside the Centre (including alcohol and cigarettes)!
Approximate Location: Aranjuez (Madrid)
Notes: • There is no problem in using the mobile phone, but use it discreetly and do not leave it with any resident, as they have programmed calls. • Wi-fi is not available.
