Ban Prunai School Yao Island (Koh Yao) (Activities with kids at primary and high school)

Description: Koh Yao is a Muslim island in the Andaman sea of southern Thailand. Since it has started to become a tourist attraction, there have been some big changes in the locals’ `lives. The villagers have changed their living from fishing and agriculture to tourism industry-related work. People slowly realized the dangers of losing their friendly sufficient communities and environment issues are rising quickly. During these 2 weeks, volunteers will join Ban Prunai school to help organize activities with kids and be a part this community. With this way, we hope to get more mutual understanding between the local and the international communities.
Type of Work: 1. Give non-formal English classes and other fun activities with the students
- Create teaching materials for teachers and kids
- Voluntary service activities with the community
Study Theme: Create teaching
Accommodation: Volunteers will sleep in the classroom. There will be only some yoga mats, pillows, and mosquito nets. We suggest you bring your own sleeping bag, inflatable mattress, or another yoga mat. It’s ok if you don’t bring any of those, but you need to be sure that you will be comfortable in such condition.
Language: English will be the language in the camp; intermediate conversational skills are needed.
Requirements: The volunteers should be ready to stay in a local area, and to adapt to the local conditions with only basic facilities. Be prepared that very few local people are able to speak English. Volunteers should be able to be with the kids, and prepare some games and materials for teaching.
