Description: Volunteers and community members will give support and guide learners academically in teaching various activities including academic, choreography, music and life skills. They will also ensure learners are adequately fed during the programme and establish the academic needs of the students and more appropriate interventions (Social, economic, community, family, religious etc.)
Type of Work: Activities range from community outreach to planning days activities, preparation of the work area. Volunteers should prepare to assist with one or more of the following: Helping kids in the after-school activities like homework, games and sports and administration work. Resource Mobilization and fundraising activities Community outreach in the neighbouring communities and added incentive to the project.
The volunteers will be required to involved in English and Mathematics activities and as well cultural activities and creating and using objects which will be used when the volunteers will meet the children.
Study Theme: Working with children, addressing academics and teaching various activities which the volunteers would like to impact on the community itself. We have no set theme as we encourage the volunteer team to work on a theme they feel they want to work on the project itself.
Accommodation: Accommodation will be in a house and venue of activities in Soshanguve. Participants will be required to bring their own sleeping bags. The accommodation has a simple bathroom with shower and water available. The accommodation and workplace have flushing toilets and do have electricity but should expect normal power cuts lasting to 4 hours on various time slots in the week. (Not every day)
Language: The community has multi-cultural people and English is mostly spoken with local languages such as Sotho, Zulu, and Tshwana to name a few
Requirements: Open minded, ready to interact with other people of different cultural background - Positive attitude - Willing to share his/her experiences - Flexible to live/stay in simple living conditions - Flexible to eat local food - Ready to do academic work on the project and No experience needed at all. Willingness to guide students especially in cultural and arts activities
Notes: The Weekend is meant to be for free tours that the group can organize by themselves. All our work camps are reserved for cultural nights when each volunteer can present her/his country and culture and prepare a dish from your country
