"Invasive Aliens Action Days" - International Workcamp in the National Park Gesäuse

Type of Work: The main work deals with fighting invasive plant species on valuable biodiversity hot-spots in the nationalpark. We are trying to remove most of the weed by hand or scythe, partly we even have to dig out the roots. Other tasks during the work camp may include restoration of hiking paths or repairing of thematic trail infrastructure.
Study Theme: You will gather knowledge the region of the National Park Gesäuse and its flora and fauna. Furthermore, you will gain hands-on experience in managing invasive plant species.
Accommodation: You will be staying at the campsite Gstatterboden inside the national park. The facility is equipped with dormitories, bath rooms and a common kitchen. Volunteers are accommodated in the dormitories. You will need a sleeping bag. Regular public transport is available. The next supermarket is approximately 10 km away.
Requirements: We are looking for participants who are physically fit and willing to work full days outdoors. You should not hesitate to get your hands dirty. Apart from that we are happy to welcome everyone who wants to contribute to nature protection work.
Approximate Location: The Gesäuse national park is located in central Austria and belongs to the northern limestone alps. It accommodates many endemic species and is rich in biodiversity. The landscape is shaped by natural forests, steep rocks and the river Enns. The location of the camp site is inside the national park. The next town is 10 km away, and so is the next supermarket. There are lots of hiking and climbing possibilites around. Some riverbanks of the Enns are accessible to go swimming.
Notes: Please kindly note that there is an additional incoming fee of 50 Euros for all volunteers applying through Partner organisations or Contacts of the SCI network. This fee covers hosting costs, insurance, a small travel fund to enable disadvantaged volunteers to join projects and administration costs and is to be paid on arrival at the project or online directly to the hosting branch. For volunteers coming through SCI Branches and Groups there is no additional incoming fee, since the costs covered by the additional fee are included in the amount paid to the sending branch.
