Description: Unlimited Use is an association which works in the Palestinian Refugee Camp of Shatila in Beirut. It hosts over 70 members, consisting of boys and girls of different ages. The aim of the association is bringing the younger generation together in order to build ties between the various communities of the camp. We believe in the power of sport for a positive change in society as it is one of the powerful tools able to build bridges for cohesion, cooperation and peace. In 2018, our center was established under the name of "Shatila Community Sports Center" to do its own activities in Shatila for boys and girls. The idea of having a Center has the aim of establishing a base, from where activities can be carried out, and at the same time it can be a place of reference for the community.
Type of Work: The main objective of the activity is to support the activities of Shatila Youth Center: Basketball Training, Boxing Training, English Lessons, Art and Drawing Classes, playful activities. Our centre is established to serve children and youth to integrate them as good individuals for a better society. Volunteers wills help the center activities: football, basketball (for girls only), ping pong, boxing, remedial classes for English and Art, entertainment, life skills and awareness sessions involving also families which are an essential part of the values of the club. All these activities will take place in the centre of Shatila and in the fields outside the camp.
Study Theme: Since one of the aims of the project is to increase awareness of the people on Palestinan Issue, there will be several talks and discussions about it: some of them formal some of them informal. Furthermore, in the context of Lebanon, our centre wants to spread this Consciousness though the sport. We created the centre to improve the general situation of the camp and to let children and youth benefit from it in order to make ties between the different Palestinian communities in Shatila.
Accommodation: The volunteers will sleep in the centre in three different big rooms where they can find a bathroom (provided with cold shower and salty water) and a small kitchen. They can cook in the centre on their own or they can eat outside. Internet is available. It is suggested to bring sleeping bags and towels. The volunteers should bring with them all the cash money they need for the whole staying in Lebanon due to the difficult economic situation of the country (taking money from ATM is very expensive and not always possible).
Language: Requested language: English, Arabic (optional), French (optional). Languages talked during camp : English and Arabic.
Requirements: Volunteers coming to our centre must have excellent spirit of adaptation and a good ability to work in a group. No need for any qualifications or degree to participate in our activities, we only ask for commitment, respect and love for sport and children. Of course good sport knowledge and background is an asset for volunteers as they could be coach or assisting of the football and basketball.
Approximate Location: The activities will take place in different locations: some in the centre based in Shatila Refugee camp like English and Art classes, awareness sessions, (computer and social media classes if there will be), basketball trainings for girls under 16, table tennis, boxing. Other activities will take place outside like football and basketball for girls over 16. Both the center and the field outside the camp are in Beirut and 10 minutes far from the Rafic Hariri airport. No train station in the country.
Notes: Notice that the basketball activities has to be followed by a girl because they are addressed to women. Moreover we are in search of someone expert in computer and social media in order to give classes and improve our knowledge about this topics.
