The Animal Academy (Fuerteventura)
Description: The Animal Academy is a non-profit organization founded by a team of veterinary professionals, created out of two main needs:
- Rescue and shelter all those farm animals victims of abuse and neglect.
- Educate and raise awareness among the local population regarding environmental education and eco- activism, with a special focus on school-age children and the tourist groups that each year choose us as a holiday destination.
Type of Work: If you want to participate in this project as a volunteer, it is important that you know the tasks carried out on a daily basis. The main tasks are related to the shelter inhabitants; cleaning, handling, care and feeding of the shelter animals as well as the construction or modification of their enclosures.
There are also other more specific activities such as: -Organizing and participating in events. -Working a day at our traveling Solidarity Stand. -Attending visits by school or therapeutic groups. -Creating works of art in coordination with our team to donate to our solidarity raffles, incorporate into our merchandising, or to decorate the refuge facilities.
Study Theme: Animal Rescue and Environment Protection
Accommodation: Accommodation will be provided in a shared studio with other volunteers, if any. The accommodation has single beds, a bathroom, kitchen and common areas within the refuge facilities.
Volunteers will have the option to stay at the refuge facilities during the volunteer camp participation period. For every five days of volunteering, you can enjoy two days of rest.
Language: A level of Spanish of B1 is recommended.

COVID-19: A negative Covid-19 test (PCR or antigen 72h) or a vaccination certificate is mandatory for participation in the workcamp.

Notes: If you don't apply through an SCI branch SCI workcamps will have an additional fee of €50.00. This will cover - local hosting costs; insurance costs of the volunteer; a small travel fund to enable disadvantaged volunteers to join projects; administration costs of SCI International.
You must pay this fee before arriving at the project, directly to the hosting branch. When accepted on the project the host branch will give you more details of the various payment options.
