Workcamp Details

Description: Welcome to the Casa Samuel workcamp! We are looking forward to seeing you here and we hope that we will have a fruitful and great time together. Caritas Salamanca has a safe house for people with HIV, where it also offers to cover basic needs and the ability to start a process of personal recovery that allows achieving the maximum possible degree of autonomy. Participation as a volunteer is performed in the guesthouse for AIDS so the possibility of living a volunteer experience in a social project is offered, approaching a concrete reality of exclusion, of some HIV-positive persons.

Type of Work: 1. Accompanying the residents: from everyday living in the guesthouse, to city walks or performing various steps.

2. Participate and encourage the various activities of leisure time that are developed from the House, encouraging everyone and helping those having greater difficulties (being in a wheelchair or walking with difficulty)
3. Collaborate on hygiene of the less valid for the development of their daily activities.
4. Collaborate in the maintenance and cleaning of the guesthouse. At all times during shifts the volunteer is accompanied by a teacher, or staff member of the House. Ask him all doubts that arise at any time, and about decisions and initiatives that affect the dynamics of the home and residents. We must not forget that it is a team effort.

Study Theme: Reflection on social exclusion and HIV from the perspective of exclusion.

Usually there are some activities on Christmas Eve and New Year' s Eve afternoon, such as games like bingo, but it is important to be aware that these are hard weeks for the residents!

Accommodation: It is in Casa Samuel. Single room with basic conditions.

Language: Spanish

Requirements: -A negative Covid-19 test (PCR or antigen 72h) or a vaccination certificate is mandatory for participation in the workcamp. -Criminal records certificate -Level B1 of Spanish

Notes: If you don't apply through an SCI branch SCI workcamps will have an additional fee of €50.00. This will cover - local hosting costs; insurance costs of the volunteer; a small travel fund to enable disadvantaged volunteers to join projects; administration costs of SCI International.

You must pay this fee before arriving at the project, directly to the hosting branch. When accepted on the project the host branch will give you more details of the various payment options.
