Description: The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development (5 December), more commonly referred to as International Volunteer Day (IVD), is an international observance mandated by the UN General Assembly in 1985. It offers an opportunity for volunteer-involving organizations and individual volunteers to promote volunteerism, encourage governments to support volunteer efforts and recognize volunteer contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at local, national and international levels.
Type of Work: Recognition of 5th December (World Volunteer Day) to recognise all the valuable volunteers in our community and organisation at large Volunteer Tasks: The work camp activities will include community work in and around Pretoria and includes working with children and also voluntary services to the community of Soshanguve.
We will honour our volunteers for the month with one special day activity dedicated to all volunteers for the year.
Study Theme: International Volunteer Day commonly known as IVD is celebrated on 5 December every year. It started as an international observance mandated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985. It's a day where volunteers are acknowledged and the spirit of volunteerism is promoted at the local, national and international levels. The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme joins IVD celebrations with UN Volunteers and all volunteers around the world – amplifying the importance of people-led solutions to our common challenges. We as SAVWA continue to celebrate this day for past 5 years
Accommodation: Accommodation will be in a home, Pretoria. Participants will be required to bring their own sleeping bags. The accommodation has a simple bathroom with shower and there is running water. The accommodation and work place have flushing toilets and do have electricity.
Language: Language: The community has multi-cultural people and English is mostly spoken with local languages such as Ndebele, Zulu, and other local languages
Requirements: Sleeping bag, sun cream, mosquito spray/lotion, sandals, working gloves and closed shoes are advisable. Rain coat, light working clothes during working hours and warm clothes at night, as it may turn out to be chilly; Torch or flash light;

Willingness to guide students especially in cultural and arts activities. Some weekends may have excursions with students to different areas of Pretoria
