Bäckedal Folkhighschool
Description: Bäckedal’s Institute of Popular Education is a Folk High School dedicated to adult education. The institute is located in Härjedalen, a mountainous and scarcly populated region in northern Sweden. Bäckedal offers general programmes for basic elegibility for higher education, and specialized programmes of traditional skills and craft. Leather- metal- and textile processes, from ancient to modern times, constitute the core of most of our courses, alongside with sustainable living, democratic values and man’s historical relationship with nature. Bäckedal is funded by the Swedish state and is independent regarding religion, party politics and external financial interests.
Type of Work: During the SCI Workcamp in June 2024, the volunteers can expect tasks including, but not limited to, carpentry and woodwork, maintenance of historical buildings, gardening, vegetable growing and animal care. Ergo, the volunteers should preferably have a personal interest in sustainable development, craftmanship and cultural heritage.
Study Theme: The school´s objectives are global justice, human rights, gender equality and a sustainable use of the earth's ecological resources.
Accommodation: Accommodation will be in beds in the schools dormitory, mainly in shared rooms for 2 persons.
