Description: Villa Sucre - Mato, a community located in the heart of the Andes in the Ancash region, opens its doors for a unique experience to create a space for dialogue and exchange with international volunteers and the local community to meet, share and learn from each other. Through cultural activities, educational workshops and collaborative projects, we seek to foster mutual understanding, appreciation of cultural diversities and strengthening of local identity. The celebration of diversity becomes an essential component in this project, promoting respect and appreciation of the traditions and ways of life of both parties, the project aims to build lasting cultural bridges, creating enriching experiences that will last beyond the time of volunteering and contribute to the sustainable and harmoni
Type of Work: • collaborative community art projects, creating murals that tell the story of the community, • Construction and renovation projects for the benefit of the community (community work), • Organize a festive event that celebrates cultural diversity with the participation of community members, • Participate in daily activities of families in the community (planting, harvesting, irrigation, construction of houses, etc.).
Study Theme: Cultural heritage, community volunteering and sustainable development.
Accommodation: Volunteers will experience a full immersion in the life of the community in the Andes, living with local families, this accommodation will provide an authentic connection with the culture, allowing volunteers to share not only in projects, but also in everyday and traditional moments. Meetings, coordination and group activities will take place in the village community center. It is important that each volunteer should bring his or her own sleeping bag.
Language: English is the language of the workcamp. There is the possibility of learning Spanish and other international languages, as cultural diversity is an important component of international service.
Requirements: Volunteering in the project requires above all the ability to be flexible and adapted to the local culture, and the ability to work in a team. The ease of interaction with children and young people will help you a lot, and experience in cultural and artistic activities is also very welcome (music, dance, theater, etc.). Approximate Location: The District of Mato - Villa Sucre, is located in the Ancash region, province of Huaylas in the Cordillera Negra, at 2158 meters above sea level, in the Andes of Peru, 480 km from Lima and 10 minutes from the city of Caraz, has a population of approximately 2190 inhabitants. With a temperature between 16º and 25ºC, which characterizes the community for having a pleasant climate all year round.
Notes: We will organize excursions and intercultural evenings from time to time during the project. The weekend will be completely free for the volunteer to experience other communities and the attractions of the region. For the intercultural evenings please bring music, games and other local materials to display during the work camp (if available, but not mandatory).
