Description: Sri Pada or Adam's Peak is an ancient pilgrimage site, which has long attracted thousands of Buddhist pilgrims. This mountain is 7,360 feet (2,250 meters) high, above the surrounding mountain ranges with breathtaking views. The pilgrim season starts in December and ends in May. With thousands of people visiting the mountaintop temple so much plastic gets mixed in the environment. Once the rainy season starts the plastic gets washed away and ends up in the rivers.
Type of Work: We encourage local volunteers to join in cleaning the environment right at the end of the pilgrim season. We will be collecting plastic left behind on the trail and bringing it down to the recycling collection point.
Study Theme: Biodiversity and environmental protection
Accommodation: Volunteers will be staying at a temple mid-way to the top of the mountain where a few rooms are available for volunteers to share accommodation with toilet facilities. Volunteers will be sleeping on the floor and volunteers should bring their sleeping bag. Despite the warm weather in Sri Lanka, this place is in the mountains hence cold at night.
Language: Common language is English
Requirements: Warm cloths and working cloths
