Description: Tlokweng is a village on the outskirts of Botswana's capital Gaborone, which is one of the fastest growing cities in Africa. Despite the significant development the country has undergone in recent decades, this brings many challenges. The local government struggles to provide adequate housing, schooling and health care to all who arrive in and around the capital. Moreover, HIV/AIDS and its consequences remain a major problem in Gaborone and its surroundings, including Tlokweng.
Since 1986, SOS Children’s Villages has been supporting children, young people and families and advocating for their rights in Tlokweng.
Type of Work: Work camp: Social and Construction work camp
SOS has some ongoing general maintenance that will be done in phases. Most of the activities that can be done are playing with children, teaching them how to read and write, tutoring. Other works include painting of some buildings and the projects are subject to change since volunteers from other agencies keep on doing them. Projects will likely be confirmed when camp date is near.

SOS has facilities that volunteers can use for accommodation. There are showers and toilets available on site. Volunteers can bring their own tents for their own convenience.

Notes: Cost of Participation in a Work Camp
The work camp participation fee is €250 per participant, which covers simple work camp meals, arrangements for the whole work camp preparation in terms of communication, electronic mailing and transport for meeting with different stakeholders. BWA organizes transport for participants from the airport in Gaborone to Mochudi (BWA Head Office) at a nominal fee of € 40 per participant, where participants are inducted prior to departure to work camps destination.
