Description: Kanana Hill Academy was founded in January 2019. It is located in Kanana village, Pongwe Kikoneni location, Lunga Lunga constituency in Kwale county. The school is registered with the Ministry of education The school is located on Mombasa-Dar es Salaam highway and it is about 80 Kms from Mombasa town just after the Ukunda major tourist town. The acreage of the school is about 4.2 hectares. The school is a mixed private school with a population of 150 pupils and 12 teachers. Aims and objectives:
- To provide good learning opportunities to young learners
- To provide learning opportunities to the less privileged in society
- To provide friendly environment to the learners
- To shape and produce future leaders with vision
- To be the leading institution in academic excellence
Type of Work: • Digging classrooms foundation • Carrying water and sand to the construction site • Mixing sand, cement and water for renovation work • Laying of concrete blocks • Clearing the bushes in the school garden • Home visits to experience challenges of development at the grassroots
Study Theme: Gender based violence within the society is multi-pronged, the female gender at the receiving end of menfolk malevolence; perpetuated by cultural impunity. Gender based violence within the society is multi-pronged and it either involves wife battering or husband battering and these cases are legion in some communities in Kenya and there is an urgent need to combat the malady.
Accommodation: • Volunteers will stay in a homestead within the community with basic living conditions. • Volunteers have an obligation to climb down the level of the people with the aim of exposure to development challenges. • There is electricity in this homestead • KVDA will provide foodstuffs and volunteers will cook their own meals in turns. Water is available from springs and it is recommended that drinking water should be boiled or medicated. Mineral water available at supermarkets is recommended. • There is electricity connection at the project
Language: English is the language of the work camp. There will be a possibility of learning Kiswahili and other international and local languages, as cultural diversity is a major component in international service.
Requirements: What to carry?
