In a terrain 68-Hectares large and surrounded by the magnificence of Nature, the inhabitants cultivate the land and raise the livestock (cows, goats, pigs, chickens, sheep). The history of the farm goes back to ancient times, when the monks of the nearby abbey of Orval invested in this magical place as it was a plentiful source of water. Over a 1000 years later, in 1998, this unique place became the main inspiration and host of a mobilisation that aims at financing the purchase of land and the construction of new buildings ; farmers dream of settling in a place where they can do their job with the utmost repect to the environment and their values.
Type of Work: The volunteers will discover the different farming practices such as animal care (sheep, pigs, cows, etc) or the making process of goat cheese. They will help harvesting and classifying potatoes, delivering the wood, and harvesting nettle in the countryside. Also, at the beginning of the workcamp, some tasks involving the whole group will be predetermined. These will consist in the maintenance of the farm, for example the sheep pen.
Study Theme: Discovering farming, meeting up with different people and their projects on place.
Accommodation: The entirety of the farm is divided into different buildings, for example the stable, the main house, etc. The volunteers will be accomodated in a lovely and cosy wooden house located in the middle of the pasture, only a few metres away from the rest of the farm. The comfort conditions are very basic but there will be mattresses, so just take your sleeping bag and towel with you. There will be access to a kitchen in the main house and all the meals during the day will be taken in a big dining room.

Approximate Location: The Farm of Hayon is located in the far South of Belgium, in the commune of Meix-devant-Virton (Province of Luxembourg). More specifically, we are in La Gaume, one of the loveliest corners of Belgium with natural and tranquil surroundings, great products and hospitable people. Here, there are as many possibilities for countryside activities as your imagination can think of (hiking, kayaking, etc). And, since the farm is quite isolated from public transport, it is possible to go on foot to wonderful villages like Avioth, Montquintin, Couvreux, and l’Abbaye d’Orval a little bit farther.
