Liguria Pride 2019
Description: In addition to its regular activities related to the promotion of gender and LGBT+ rights (such as theater, discussions, workshops in school etc.), Liguria Pride committee organizes an annual regional Pride. The volunteers will have the chance to be actively involved in the logistics and the organization of the Liguria Pride 2019 through participating in the preparation of workshops and other activities dedicated to promote gender education in Genoa and to raise awareness among the local community by sharing international realities and personal experiences. The workcamp venue is Giardini Luzzati, a social center with a bar and a restaurant, located on a public square in the historical center of Genoa.
Type of Work: The volunteers will have a short training on gender education and social media management. After that, their main work will be related to logistical support and social media promotion of the Pride. In the week before the parade the volunteers will support its planning and promotion, while contributing to the organization of workshops and taking part in the pride village activities ( debates, activities with children, tour of LGBT+ arts in Genoa, etc.). The work will be mostly in the afternoons and the evenings. Due to the numerous activities concentrated during the Pride village week, the free days of the volunteers will be at the beginning and at the end of the workcamp. The most intense day will be the 15th of June - the day of the parade.
Study Theme: The study part will be dedicated to the following topics: Gender education (through non-formal education methods); Training on social media by a professional media manager; Presentation of LGBT+ art in the region of Liguria, including a book and a website created this year in order to present various pieces of art in the city.
Accommodation: The accommodation will be in the historical center of Genoa and the conditions will be very basic – the volunteers will sleep in a big gender mixed room and they have to bring their own sleeping bag and a camping mattress. There will be two bathrooms (the disponibility of showers is yet to be confirmed). Towels are not provided. All the meals, except breakfast, will take place at the restaurant of the village. The food will be vegan. Free wifi is available in some parts of the city and the village, but not in the accommodation.
Language: Since not everyone in Genoa speaks English well, some knowledge of Spanish or Italian would facilitate the communication. However, the activities are planned to be followed easily also by non-Italian speakers
Requirements: Some previous knowledge about LGBT+ is desirable. Motivational letter is required (Why do you want to join a LGBT+ village and pride? What is your experience with LGBT+ and what is the situation in your country/community? Are you already an LGBT+ activist? And if yes, where and how? How can you contribute to the camp and our community?)
Approximate Location: The location is in the historic city center of Genoa. The closest airport is Genoa airport, However Genoa Brignole and Genoa Principe train stations are easily reachable by Milan, Bergamo or Pisa airports. Many direct bus connections.
Notes: The meals will be vegan. There is no wifi connection in the accommodation space but free wifi at Luzzati square.
