No Border Fest
Description: “La Città dell'Utopia” (The City of Utopia) is a project of SCI Italy located in San Paolo district, Rome. The project is an experiment in creating active citizenship and local development. Different events, initiatives, courses and workshops concerning the topics of interculturality, sustainable lifestyle and active citizenship take place here. This year again, “La Città dell'Utopia” organizes the annual “NO BORDER FEST” - two days of discussions, music and cultural events dedicated to the topic of migration, freedom of movement and struggle against diverse forms of racism.
Type of Work: The Festival focuses on the most urgent topics emerging in the last months in the area of international migration, with a focus on Rome/Italian context. The main topics of this edition are: the issue of borders; migration in the global context; connections between citizens’ rights and social inclusion/exclusion. Activities: Support in the construction and preparation of scenographies and spaces. Support to the promotion of the Festival. Active role during the days of the event. Re-arrangement at the end of the Festival.
Study Theme: The study part of the workcamp will follow the main theme of the Festival - issues connected to the topics of migration and human rights. The volunteers will meet the local organization Laboratorio 53, partner of the Festival, who actively supports and works with asylum seekers and refugees in Rome.
Accommodation: he volunteers will stay in the hostel of La Città dell’Utopia. There will be mixed rooms, for max 7 volunteers per room. There will be beds, bedsheets, pillows, blankets. No towels provided. The toilet and the showers are on the same floor and shared. Hot water will be provided with aware consume. There will be a kitchen available where the volunteers will eat all meals together in the hostel, sometimes with other people who attend La Città dell’Utopia for their activities.The volunteers will be responsible for the cooking and cleaning of the space and the materials they use for each meal.
Language: French, Spanish, Catalan, Serbian, Bulgarian and Greek will be also spoken in the free time during the workcamp
Requirements: Interest in migration and social justice topics, group working skills, interest in organizing events, manual and artistic skills.
Approximate Location: The workcamp is situated in Rome. Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino Airport, Termini or Tiburtina railways stations in Rome.
