Estia Agios Nikolaos
Description: Estia Agios Nikolaos is the only life-sharing community in Greece, where adults with developmental disabilities live, work and spend their free time together with their caregivers. All our residents are Greek, and for most of them, Estia becomes their home for the rest of their lives. Our staff and volunteers are attracted from all corners of Greece and the world and are united by their wish to grow and contribute to this truly diverse community. Regular work in our workshops and our gardens, a rich cultural and social life and the building of family-like warmth, all contribute to the development and well–being of each member and the entire community.
Type of Work: The theme for the group will be to take care of the paths in the lemon-garden and to make it accessible for people with special needs and in wheelchairs. We will deal with activities similar to a small farm. We will cut wood for the wood oven and make bread. We will take care of the garden of Estia and begin the creation of a hiking trail at the borders of the institution.SCI volunteers might be joined by some of the people from Estia Agios Nikolaos. We will work 7 hours per day (from 07.00-11.00 and 17.00-20.00) and the weekends are free. The volunteers will organize themselves in their free time.
Accommodation: There will be a big hall with mattresses for accommodation. You need to bring a sleeping bag. You also need to bring sheets and towels. There are toilets and showers. The volunteers will gather and make their own breakfast. For lunch and dinner a house will cook and they will prepare and serve themselves.
