Community Educational Empowerment and Creative Arts
Description: Kipepeo Community Education Centre is a community educational school aimed at empowering children from resource poor and needy families in Luanda Sub-County with basic primary education based on the national curriculum approved by Kenya Ministry of Education. Most of the children come from families affected by HIV AIDS, death of their parents, vulnerable and poverty stricken families. The centre provides primary education trainings to enable create a sense of sustainability and educated society through provision of the much needed education for future communal prosperity. Kipepeo Community Education Centre is a project of Kipepeo Community Empowerment Program, which is a community based organization that empowers needy community groups through various integrated activities.
Type of Work: Sports activities with the local youth groups, artistic work, painting drawing graffiti, feeding orphans and children, teaching children at the school. The volunteers will participate as a team in the whole duration of the camp. Volunteers can share and exchange different cultural forms during the workcamp. The orientation for the workcamp is scheduled at KCEP offices for the day before the workcamp start.
Study Theme: Educational and Creative Arts
Accommodation: KCEP provides accommodation that is shared by all the volunteers. Volunteers must bring their own sleeping bag, mosquito net or repellents, spot light, cap, sun cream, personal effects i.e. toiletries. Internet, supermarkets and banking are available in Luanda town, which is 20 minutes’ drive from KCEP offices and it’s accessible by use of public transportation (matatu)
Requirements: Commitment of volunteers, hard work and full participation is required. Volunteers should be self-driven, adaptable, people oriented and tenacious. Also bring sun cream, mosquito repellent, working gloves, boots/shoes, light working clothes during working hours, warm clothes at night, as it may turn out to be cold, flash light, personal effects (toiletries) and materials for the cultural exchange
Approximate Location: KCEP is located around 30 km west of Kisumu and 400 Km West of Nairobi, capital city of the Republic of Kenya
Notes: Orientations shall be held one day before the workcamp begins. The participants must arrive at least two days before the workcamp begins to have rest time and also to get to know each other, as well to get knowledge of the host village before the orientation. Participants will also have a chance to go to Luanda town from Kima to familiarize themselves with the transport system, markets, banks, supermarkets among others before they depart for the camp. The fee does not cover airport pick up and drop off after the project. Volunteers that intend to have the pickup and drop off service shall consult with KCEP office to identify the service provider and make arrangement. This service will cost an extra -50 Euros one way from Nairobi or 350 euros from those arriving at Kisumu Airport.
